Trash

I bought this book at the library sale, not because I wanted to read it so much as I was drawn to this first yellowed page.....

How
perfectly
and neatly
the librarian stamped
the word
"DISCARD"
under the title....

placed there with great care,
or caution,
or trepidation.

I can't help, but wonder, what thoughts passed, when this jacket was opened....
The words, "LOVE is the drug"
hanging there,
an empty prescription bottle on
a dusty bathroom shelf......

And how hard it was, for even the slightest addict, to reach up and touch it, pull it down from it's ageless safe place,
and finally
throw it out.....

Love IS the drug. It's the most euphoric thing I've ever found and it can be the most numbing too at times.

The empty bottle that once held love; alone on a dusty shelf. Love is such a strong addiction; especially when you were born addicted to it's ageless first kiss, first date, it's first broken heart.

Do Not Discard. 365. I see the thread tieing all of your work together. Your own theme. How lovely.

Oh Sister...how I laughed out loud when i saw that picture! Too funny! Lol, i remember you telling me about buying the book & the look on dear, sweet Kimbies face. Lol.
I guess all drugs, once expired, should just be chunked or flushed or what-have-you, but I do have to admit cre8tiva is right...I can't imagine throwing a book away.

An intervention of epic nature.

Heh, you know that does look pretty funny. Good catch.

But you know, I've heard you have to throw away everything you love, and if it doesn't come back it was never yours. Throw away? Hmm, maybe that's not right, "give away" certainly sounds bettr.

PS: I got your package. It was cool, I felt guilty because all that I sent in my package were jeans!

karma...of course, which is exactly why we go back again and again and again, if we've ever had even the faintest taste of that high....!

eric....or the bottle half full, pushed to the back, out of sight, but always there....waiting....

cre8tiva....but still, ditched and dirty, left for abandon....I scooped her right up and brought her home.....:)

slb....yup, it was classic.....And yeah, I left the classics there, only fetching home this one! :)

justacoolcat....intervention, always showing her face!

trevor....Well, I hope you enjoy the black and white lines as much as we enjoy the blues! I'm inclined to think if you realy love someone, they'll always be free.....

eric....I missed the debut! But the morning light was blessed!

Brian Ferry would be pleased, especially since his critics have labeled him one of rock's worst singers.

singleton said...

drips... try peace as a vitamin....it makes all the difference. I truly don't believe you can have love without it...

mindy....<3 your brain sometimes! I thought exactly the same thing!

I meant 'She's so pretty up there!"

Hi, Singleton. You deserve credit for what you did. I should have had your name on it from the grand opening.

You there?

I agree, love can be addictive like a drug. Most of my relationships have been obsessive, not healthy....

Oh, what an amazing find! Glad you rescued it, every one needs a quick fix every now and then..

Eric...I'm gonna post it on peace, too, just have had to many things going on to make it past all the blogger bullying when it comes to line spacing, probably over the week-end!Hope you had a good night, friend p~l

Scott....Ha! Could be! and they were having a fire sale to pitch all his titles for a dime.....lets see he/she wrote about five bins of books, ranging from How to repair lawnmowers to The Autobiography of a Transient. Interesting.

Drips....thank you. Everything can be so complicated. Or quite so simple. Most of the time, we forget, that we get to pick!

Hi from the UK,

Blog-surfing again I'm afraid - followed the link from Eric313 (you can blame him for everything).

You have my taste in music ; slightly different taste in art.

I'm getting dragged screaming to a Hippie Festival in mid-Wales (where's mid-Wales ?) next month.

5 days in a wig-wam with a bunch of old friends who are insisting that I join them.

Might be fun huh ?

Peace, Love and Woodstock (and stuff),

M.

sue......I know all about that. But like with any controlled substance, we just have to remember things like...."Don't operate heavy machinery" "May make you drowsy" "May impair your senses" and then, maybe, we can just enjoy the high!

shrink....Oh, I so could not leave this little treasure sitting on the dime rack waiting for the dumpster!

peace, love all!

singleton said...

merlin.....We were typing in Tink! LOL! Dragged to a hippie festival? Next to the beach, that would be my idea of Eutopia, wandering around with a river of music in the sky, no clocks, no cars.....Enjoy Wales, the wigwam, and the peace!

Íf Life is a Drug, maybe he wanted to come clean?

But then again, if love is a drug, so is life, and you wont come out of them both alive...

hmm, not quite sure if that made any sense...

well, here's my confession for the day. two years ago, when we moved after 20 years of accumulation upon accumulation, i went through every single book i owned. i had never ever discarded a book.

but this time i did. one by one i kept only the ones i wanted nearby for the future. the others i gave away. now i look at my bookshelves and smile at every single book. (i still have hundreds, btw).

something to be said for keeping it simple.

A bottle that shall never be discarded or unfilled in your hands I'm sure. If I were a book I would want to be on your medicine shelf.

I can't believe people discard books!!!! Of all things, Books need to be recycled!!!!! Our school library wanted to discard (Do librarians have a hold on this word or what?) boxes of books.
I was outraged.
Give them away!
I could go on and on, but I'm glad you saved that one. Let me know how it was please. Oh, and you are tagged. I hope you'll play:)

I'm glad the book found another shelf. Maybe, though, it was just time.

How's the Blue Lady doing today? I hope you are healing well. Thanks for the words on the post. You make me proud to be your friend.
Talk to you later, my friend

My addiction...
there are no words
for it

I search and they hide
But they were here before,
the right words,
traipsing around in thier
skimpy white cotton underwear listening to the sound of
their names and feeling
undefindined by our mouths
and our cagey minds

I can't start my day without them
winding their way past my lips
finding their place on my page
now they tell me they are a poem

Can poems be sould by the eighth
or quarter ounce bag?
Poetry by the kilo--
Traded for a .45 and new shoes

uncut--deadly--pure
people kill each other for less
then in death, they find their way
to the pages of loved ones
in words
as part of their addiction
the living and the dead
on the tombstone it reads
"My Addiction..."
and that's all they ever say

crash...."if love is a drug, so is life"....it better be! If you aren't as intoxicated with the whole hoo-hah, the punch line won't matter too much either! now, whose making sense? :)

kj...Well, I'm not confessing anything today, but I totally understand.....It's just this particular title and it's blatant stamp of shun, struck a chord......
you know, I'm sentimental like that.....

she.....yeah baby, you gotta be a pirate if you're gonna get the treasures.....especially the ones others might just skip over!

singleton said...

spongy.....yeah, it's cozy there! :) you could snuggle up against the Ibizza hippie perfume (Who knows what chaos that would evoke, but the bottle is so cool and gypsy like), the bar quarters that I hide there, the extra tube of toothpaste (For running away) and the empty tube of blue mascara :)

wreckless...I know, don't get me going....and exactly what criteria do these use? I mean National Georgraphics stamped "discard"? When does an ocean or the wild or the endless sky go out of style or become boring? Tagged it is!

singleton said...

justrun.....you know you're probably right, hand-me-downs are usually most at home right here. Poor little autobiography of an addiction had probably been standing out on the corner all day, just waiting for someone like me to come along!

Eric....I'm printing "as part of my addiction to
the living and the dead " .....
You knew already, I would love it....
building walls to hang the words from!
