"What's love got to do with it?"

Chey got roses today. A mammoth, gaudy, had to be hauled to the office in a van because they wouldn't fit in a VW, bouquet of roses. I love roses. But not like this. I like rambling wild roses spider crawling up the fence like a pink blackberry bush gone mad. I like seven sisters, passed from house to house and from generation to generation. I like my roses. Thorny and knotty, accidently beautiful, and free....

She didn't show me the card or read me the words and she didn't have to. As the long stemmed beauties dipped over the counter, babies breath stretching, reaching, rising....the bouquet spoke for itself. The fifty dollar apology. The show everybody "I'm the man" button. The secret admirer out of the box. The loud mouth.

I'll stick to wildflowers, thank you....
and words.....
just say the words....

Peace~love

Powerful.

And... Vindication! The florist ripping us off.

If a woman can be bought with long stem roses, she might be susceptible to any old creep buying her expensive roses.

I mean, I could get a dozen beauties like that, but one spoiled rich boy gets the dozen roses and poinsettias and orchids set up, and I'm done for! Bought out, sold out out of luck, wishing I had the dog house.

Of course, wild roses planted in the backyard, yellow and red, or pink climbers on trellises--that's what I loved, too, growing like crazy after a few years.

Clink! Peace out, you.

No doubt Sister!
Give me wildflowers from the roadside drainage ditch in an old rusted out coffee can over those sterile beauties anyday!
Even better, just give me peace!

Aah, yes. The tight, over-priced, strapped-in bouquet. Whores to fashion. Flowers-in-bondage. I don't get it. But a single perfect blossom, grown with love and snipped in the garden at first light, displayed in a simple container, that could win any heart over.

I buy myself flowers... $5 max.
It feels much more empowering than a $50 mass produced apology.
Plus, I'd rather have him say it to my face than via a cheezy note card.

Eric....
Well, thats even the worst side of the coin....
"If a woman can be bought with long stem roses"....but if that's the cases, don't worry about missing out on anything....
she's probably not worth the long stemmed investment!
And honestly, I felt sorry for the flowers, all starched up and at attention, delivered just on time, and then left there, on the office counter overnight....
painted ladies left on the corner....

skinny....can we sing this in harmony, a chorus out loud? Justgivemepeace, justgivemepeace, justgivemepeace.....
That's when I'll know him.....

Electric....Yes! Exactly! "Flowers in bondage"! And I did, I truly felt sorry for them. Sold to the highest bidder for the cheapest excuse, and dressed up, paraded around, and left to stand on the corner of the countertop, like lonely beauty star contestants that lost out to the girl next door....you are so very very right, my flower loving friend...

princess....Isn't it funny, how they can mass produce emotion? Devotion? Dedictation? And "oh yeah, by the way, I'm sorry?"

Send yourself flowers sweetie, that's wonderful....they're welcome and loved and whisked into expectant waiting arms that way!

Beautiful...just beautiful..thank you...Yes, what does love got to do with it?

Unfortunatley, I've learned the hard lessons that sometimes wild flowers can have thornes as well...

Nice. Very nice. I hate those roses too. This is why I love my best friend Brad-he sends me purple wildflowers when I have a bad day and just cause I'm going through a purple phase....

I don't know, I'm a sucker for flowers, no matter the reason. I love how one of the tags for this post is "Silly Love Songs."

snap!

to hell with 50 dollar apologies.

sometimes though, should i find myself sharing close quarters with some slobbering canine, i search the ground for found apologies. most recently it was an abandoned alcoholic finger puppet. it is now perched atop a half-empty, waiting to be removed for an upcoming romantic encounter.

to hell with 50 dollar apoligies and dead things stolen from their roots.

singleton said...

No...oh, sweetie, every flower has thorns, every love story is a sad story on a given day, every rainbow up and vanishes,
but for the moment, the sweet sweet smell of a wildflower, perfume on fire....
but for the moment.....
and isn't that what we live for afterall?

karma....Well, we think alike, girl, that's all I gotta say. Gimme something wild and free!

sandy.....Ain't we southerners something? I remember seven sisters from my childhood, and just lucked into being gifted with a little sprig of something in a tin can that grew into the most gorgeous petticoat of girls you've ever seen!

real live....yes, gimme the words, and even the thorns are worth it. Amen!

photoblog....Oh, I didn't say I wasn't a sucker! I am, I am, I am, just not for the "Dress me up for success" stuff anymore.....And I do love flowers, I have them growing everywhere, dripping, hanging, wandering, wild....and where there isn't dirt, I paint 'em!

Benji.....You rock! Here's to an up and coming romantic encounter!

Peace~love my friends.....

I love "real" flowers, too... but, sometimes, when I worked in that office, I used to wish that just once the flowers being delivered were going to my desk. I love flowers of every kind.

...or on the other hand, just pass me a beer.
Roses are very showy.
Look into the eyes and mean what you say when you say, "I am an ass."
"Sorry."
Wildflowers are nice too!

Hmmm? If I ever give you flowers in my lifetime I know mother natures own homegrown wildflowers you can find in the backyard will do just fine for the meaning of friendship, hopefully it will be spring when I happen to.

Take care Singy.

PS - I'm in the search for my life and love, wish me luck.

My friend,

What a joy it is to read your words. To feel your spirit. A spirit that looks for 'accidental beauty'...and finds it... everywhere...

I too am tired
of the facade,

Of lipstick love,
and powder puff dreams.

Give me love that vaults
over the barbed gates of conformity

That gallops on blood flecked hooves
acroos the barren fields of
despair

That reaches out a tired hand
again and again...

Give me eyes that dare to stay soft, in the midst of all aridity and ugliness,

A heart that stands in the centre of the fire

Singing silly love songs

and does not shrink back,

until

the wild rose
that grows humbly in the mud

realises the depth of her beauty.

All my love to you, Maithri.

As I read this, I think of Tom Petty's "Wildflower" . . .

You belong among the wildflowers
You belong in a boat out at sea
Sail away, kill off the hours
You belong somewhere you feel free

Run away, find you a lover
Go away somewhere all bright and new
I have seen no other
Who compares with you

You belong among the wildflowers
You belong in a boat out at sea
You belong with your love on your arm
You belong somewhere you feel free

Run away, go find a lover
Run away, let your heart be your guide
You deserve the deepest of cover
You belong in that home by and by

You belong among the wildflowers
You belong somewhere close to me
Far away from your trouble and worry
You belong somewhere you feel free
You belong somewhere you feel free

shimmerings...oh, we've all probably felt that way on occasion....the delivery truck pulls out front, the florist with the face hidden behind the giant bouquet coming in through the front door and a thousand thoughts fleeting....Who?Why? Ooooops! Not mine:) I love flowers too, sweetie, this was just such a blatant, garish, ridiculously expensive way to apologize for something that (in my sweet peace, love world) shoulda never happened in the first place! I tried to talk Chey into taking the bouquet apart and just randomly passing out long stemmed roses at traffic lights, the corner store....Instead she just left them to sleep under the hum of fluorescent lights in the office....

Eric....
Wild horses~wild roses.....
Yeah, that's a clink!
Wishing you safe travels friend, and sending constant prayers. Much peace and love to you, to your family, your circle....Will be thinking of you all....

KJ....Smiling huge! I know, girl! Your world is technicolored with flowers in the garden, on the walls, in little Ryans smile! Enjoy!

Mavin....well you did just send me flowers! Right there, in painted words! Sweetie, we are all on a search, every day....for peace, for love, for ourselves, our souls....and along the way, one little pebbled treasure at a time, we find it all....I'm wishing you all the luck in the world, but dont look too hard, you might miss the little things along the way...
treasures are often mistaken for everyday life!

Honestly man, your words are incredible.....
a field of wildflowers
accidently born on the shores of the ocean...
"until

Absolutely beautiful! Thank you, sweet friend....

Mary....Amen! Dancing in the kitchen! Amen!

Oceans....the sun hasn't risen yet, it's dark and quiet, and there is a white billowy fog enveloping the world outside,
from here
the streetlights
are floating....
and for a moment
I can pretend to be at sea....
Just beautiful!

Thank you for the blessings and friendship, Sing. Things are really painful right now.

I'm so glad to have a friend like you to write with, one who knows me like in past lives brought up to now.

Check the drafts at the Butterfly Bar.

There's a beauty ready to fly right in there.

And did you finish All my friends are going to be strangers yet?

Hi, I have been meaning to visit your site. KJ told me about you and your sister.

I love the flowers and plants, all kinds, unless it is from my husband. I know how much they cost. He could save the money and take me to Williams Sonoma or an art supply store instead. In fact he can just wrap an All-Clad pan instead and it will be heaven.

Eric....So hoping things are turning better in your world, and that good news might fall unexpected and prayers will be answered. Draft is absolutely beautiful, you know I clink to that one, my friend. I gave up reading in the house about two years ago, "Doctor my eyes" and read and draw in the sunlight now, today is a perfect 80 degree postcard place to finish the pages...I'll clink ya at the end!

She....yup! You got it! I think you wrapped up my sentiments in a perfect bouquet! PS: Congrats on landing the role! You and Karma go girls!

suchacoolcat....Amen! amen! Amen!

Ces....I just wandered over and feasted on your paintings and drawings, my God girl, you are incredible! I haven't commented yet, because I honestly didn't know where to begin and like getting lost in the house of mirrors I wandered everywhere. It's so very nice to meet you!
P.S.....Should I forward your response to hubby so he'll have the inside juice on the All-clad pan in time for Santa?:)

Sweetspado.....May your circle be unbroken.... Love grows!

Peace~love
and wildflowers my friends
