Butterflies and Hurricanes......

I twisted and twirled the same strand of blonde hair over and over again, weaving a pretend dreadlok back and forth between my fingers. My eyes were sun heavy, and each time I blinked, I did it slowly and savored the moment, my lashes like lazy palmetto fronds fanning me into summer sleep. I was bored with the conversation.
.
She babbled endlessly. A thousand words strung together like a macaroni necklace.... And she fidgeted. To the right, the left, under the table, across the table....A chihuahua frantic for table scraps....
.
She was making her move. Chasing Prince Charming. I blew smoke rings and watched them hover, transluscent doughnuts disappearing when they framed her face. She didn't notice. She didn't see his blue eyes flit from the right to the left and then settle on the pile of paperplates and pastic silverware stacked in front of him. She didn't see the sun falling into the river or the shadows from the giant Cypress trees turning into Gargoyles on the water. She was too busy bustin' her moves.....
.
The band came on and for just a moment, I thought she was going to leap onto the tabletop, Tom Cruise in high heels..... but she just yanked him, snatched him off his feet and swirled him out onto the floor. I took one last swig of cold beer and watched. Skinny arms flailing, legs up and down, spinning, and still.....she babbled on and on and on......"Me" language, her native tongue...
.
Silly girl.......
You lost him at hello....

kj....LOL! I wish you could have been a fly on the wall.....I could never capture in the telling, exactly how bizarre this night was! :)

Oh wow!

What words...

How often we act like this... in ways big and small... searching for scraps from the table of another...

when we could have the shadows of the cypress trees

and sun heavy eyes

and the song of the meadowlark
making love to the river,

My love to you soulful butterfly,

M

Maithri,
Oh, sweet friend, you so get it everytime....
And here,
another day done in our lives,
this unexpected hurricane
missed the show,
the quiet invitation of
new friends and
a world through newday eyes,
the laughter of a circle
growing stronger with a new voice,
she missed the soulful sound
of Jimmy on the drums,
the sound of soft shoes and
cowboy boots on the
sandy dancefloor,
and even,
our open arms....
too busy spinning endless
sentences
to feel the love.....

Much love to you and yours, sweet friend,
I've missed you

Hahahhahaha...sometimes the entertainer needs to just sit back and be entertained for a spell, as even the best performer doesn't always perform best...and our portfolio's, our resumes, our introduction should only contain the best of the best.

Oh dear, the poor girl. You sitting there watching the whole thing unfold. You are like an eagle with your observations of human nature!

Oh, Skinny......Oh, sweetchild, this one coulda used some of your wisdom! Sometimes no matter how many places you've been, people you've known, things you've seen can add up to nearly as much wisdom as the soul that just listens and learns.....ILYSVVM! Countdown!

Blue....The eagles were there! For real! Alligators, hawks, and turtles.....And still......she just babbled on and on and on.....! I almost got the giggles, but it was kinda sad, in a way. So desperate for love, for a good time, that she missed the whole point.....it was right there all along....the circle....all she had to do was scooch in....

Peace~love

That was just beautiful. I loved your contrast between the fidgety girl and you, the languorous narrator. As vivid as if you had mailed a beer-stained postcard directly from that sweaty night.

ibeati....Amazing isn't it? Love grows and grows and grows!

Sweet She....Another Friday night in Paradise! :) It's amazing the fairytales, the fables, the maybes, the never agains that are spun before your very eyes....Thank God for beer! :) Much love sweet friend

Electric....I just nominated you to be my Vacation penpal! Skinny and Kimbies and I and a dozen of our dearest and who knows who newest friends are headed for seven days and seven nights at hippie beach! Get ready for "beer stained postcards!"

How observant you are... and how quite colorfully told

singleton said...

Sweet Shimmerings....Honest, I wasn't being all that observant....it was on the big screen, like being at the drive~in movies at dusk.....I do however apologize for blabbing about it! Probably should keep my musings to myself every now and then, huh? :)

Peace~love and silly nights etched on the wall.....

Oh for heaven's sake, I am one of those people watchers, too... I am intrigued by other's behaviours. And is nice to be able to identify other's behaviours, in their correctness or incorrectness. Perhaps I feel that it makes me wiser, perhaps I can relate, at times. We sometimes just zooooom in, by happenstance. Nothing to apologize for, when you're wide awake and tuned in.

Brilliant word portrait!

Shimmerings....Amen! There's much always to be learned from listening and watching....new things, good things, not~to~do things, how~to~do things... Living, loving, learning! Clink!

Saintly.....:) So nice to see you, friend!

Peace~love
It's almost Friday, Friends!

I love this bar,,,and it's inhabitants,,so much to be learned here,,,,if like you, we "hide 'n watch",,,

So much to be said by saying nothing at all,,,leaving some mystery,,,some unknown,,,some hope that there's something running deeper,,,,

Babs....I've said it a zillion times and hope I get to say it a zillion more....I, too, Love this Bar! The stories, the lives, the smiles, even the heartaches....and all of it woven together, everyone brought together, by fate or chance! And jsyk, your one sentence would be the very very best piece of advice any woman could ever offer this girl....if only she would stop talking long enough to hear it.....

Peace~love my wise wise friend
