Babies, like lovers.....

Arrive when you least expect them. I'm gonna be Mimi again. A little sooner than we thought, we're gonna be blessed with toothless grins and sleepless nights, first words, first falls, first "blow me a kiss"es..... meant-to-be's......

And so....Friday night we did the Drano test. Yup, made the midnight run to 7-11, "Nope, they don't have it" "O.K., try Walgreens, they're open 24-7" "Ok, they've got it...gel or foam?" "Hold on, it's been a long time, lemme look it up...." "Crystals, it's gotta be crystals" "Arrrrggggh....they don't have it. Are you sure it's gotta be crystals? " "Yep, you're half way to Walmart, keep driving"......

One thirty A.M.... And we're standing barefoot in the driveway, mixing chemicals and karma.....watching..... when....

KABOOM!

It's a boy!

If they don't believe me, I'll do the pencil test.....

That's pretty obscure, pretty crazy, pretty damn good.

I've never heard of any of them! But, you've been around the block afew more times than I have.

What's with the names at the FlutterbyBar? I can be Eric1313 and still get recognized. Unless... Did the get a copywrite? After we get enough poems, we should deffinitely send then out.

How wonderful!!! The mystery sends another messenger into the night, another God in embryo, another seed of hope. To kiss the world with love.

May the twinkling light of joy surround you and your precious family as you celebrate the dawn of life,

Whispering a prayer into the night,

Maithri

Ahhh, real time, boys!

Eric....Ahh, the wives tales of the learned! Silly little sonograms don't have anything up on those of us "in cahoots"! I emailed you on the rest....and it's a rambling, babbling, endless sentence..... Hyped Tonight!

Maithri....Your prayers and hopes were here in Godspeed....And I can't tell you how much they mean to me....This little one is going to rock a few worlds...And there will be joy.....A sudden change of plans, but joy.....The butterfly effect....the circle....ever growing...

peace~love my sweet friends

Congratulations! I'd like to share a test that's been in my family for generations and which - I'm told - has always been accurate. A family member takes a knife and a pair of scissors, and hides them under the cushions of a sofa. The "lady in question" is then brought into the room and instructed to choose a seat and sit down. If she sits on the cushion hiding the scissors, it's a girl; if she chooses the knife, it's a boy. I tried this with my sister when she was expecting my youngest niece. We repeated it endlessly. Every time she picked the scissors! Uncanny.

SLB....It so grows....in circles, up and down, wild like weeds.....yes, love grows! ILYSVVM2

Electric....OK, We'll have to be really really careful with that one (but then the drano was like setting off dynamite in the drive-way), but we'll try it when she comes home at Thanksgiving! Aren't traditional believe-it-or-nots just the coolest things?

Peace~love

Ibeati....I long ago learned blessings come in unexpected packages at unexpected times.....a very wise woman, Gramma Lela, once told us girls....
"the first one comes anytime,
after that it takes nine months"....
Clinking! To the anytime!

SweetShe....yes, every one, a chance for love, a new hope,a golden thread....Thank you, my friend

Mavin....Silly boy, you're goin' wild on the template thing! It's fun to do sometimes! Out with the old.....and dance to the new!

Wreckless....Thank you! There's something phenomenally blessed about being a grandparent.....Just living long enough to see those toes, those eyes, those pouts, and temper tantrums....echoed in the face of your child's child....living long enough to fall that deeply in love again....

I agree with Princess. The cultural side, the family and the circle of souls, they are really the intriguing parts. To think that Drano can give a person that kind of peace of mind. It's a real zinger of a thought. I can imagine her looking at your beer and you saying 'no, but how about in eight months I buy you one?' Is that wrong to say?

A friend of mine over in St. Clair Shores is all hyped up over her store bought test. The problem is she has a history of false positives. Which, after a while, makes one wonder about her, because they also begin and end conveniently for her. I hate to think she'd lie about such things. But she has a habit of this. Like as in she told me about it yesterday, but calls me tonight telling me how drunk on a bottle of wine she is, When I ask about the pregnancy thng, she doubles back and claims she only had a glass, then says she doesn't know for sure, then forgets all of it and drunkenly rambles the rest of the time. I have no idea what to do. She's a friend, but she's also off her nut.

Again, congratulations to the involoved parties. Everything will work out fine.

Gillian...Isn't it wild, the things we come to trust, because they hold true? And I really think not knowing if it's a boy or girl and just praying for health is the way to go.....but I'm just too antsy for all that anymore....Ta!Dah! Drag out the Drano! Too bad you aren't closer, we could all be in clinkety tinkety cahoots!

Princess...Thank you! And it's just as much fun to watch the new traditions take place, the things that accidently happen once and are a forever family fixture after......

Shrink....We are excited! Praying for health and a safe delivery into our lives.....And the circle grows......

Eric....Ha! Sounds like your friend is just stuck on the same ole tipsy story....Unless she's married and trying to have a baby, seems like after the first "I might be...." she would have either stopped drinking or started taking BC pills! Really nothing you can do, except hope if she really is this time, she let's go of the bottle.....

Peace~love my friends, it's almost the week-end!

What is the Drano test exactly? I'm confused as to how this works.

singleton said...

Oh Karma....I'm forever thinking everyone knows what I'm thinking! It's a homemade test to find out if the baby is a boy or a girl.....you mix equal parts crystal drano and ummmm, tinkle, in a class container, about a third the way full....If it fuzzes and barely changes colors, it's a girl.....If it takes off like a bottle rocket, a fluorescent volcano, it's a boy! It's dangerous as hell, and highly toxic, so Mom-to-be can't be anywhere near the "explosion" and we probably should have worn gas masks and flame retardant suits just to watch it! But, still, I believe...... :)

justacoolcat said...

Great story and I love the pic!

singleton said...

suchacoolcat....That precious angel is my grandniece....What a joy, joy, joy she is! The grandbaby's mine, though! And it's a boy! Course the doctor says you can't tell until 20 weeks, but then....he hasn't done the damned Drano test yet!

mindy said...

how do you do this? i would love to learn. have you noticed that everyone is having boys lately?? all my friends.. all having boys. hmmm..

singleton said...

Mindy...Hah! We never get boys! Jonah was the first one as far as we could see in almost 20 years, and another 14 went by before Stone arrived......
Google the drano test....it's everywhere, except we believe, if it's a volcano stewing it's a boy, if it's a spring gurgling, it's a girl! :)
