The long, long week-end

"Ooooooh.......ice..........cream...... " the chic in black leather purred from the table. Her eyes steadied, locked with ours, as we ambled by. We nodded hello's, southern style, and raised our beers. Clink! She didn't blink. She purred. Stretched her legs out, siamese cat style, from under the shadow of the umbrella...

"She likes you, baby" ...I laughed

"She likes you, baby".... he laughed.

Two more steps and we were lost in a sea of bikers. Beer and leather everywhere. No Tequila Sunrises , Bloody Marys, Gin and Tonics.....just a sea of leather boots, stub-nosed, at the best....bottled beers ....and tainted tattoos.

I swam in it. Bask in their Cher and Sam Elliott ambience. They stared at us. Him with his groomed "he's such a nice boy" looks and me, hippiesque and smiling. But there was something Woodstocky here. The way they all bonded together, swayed together, drank together, clanking empty bottles. The way they smiled. The way their laughter rose like smoke rings over the orchestra of revving engines. I liked it.

Hours later we wandered back through the blue-jeaned, black booted crowd, hugging our last beers. She stretched her leg out one more time on our way back..... " ice cream" she whispered.

Pinching my belt loops and leaning in...his words brushed my Sunday afternoon cheek..... "I'm your ice cream man, baby"...

It's Friday.

I'm standing in the drive-way, rolling the crumpled dollar....listening for the rinky dink music..... waiting on the ice cream truck...

I've been in both ice cream worlds. The latter one is almost a constant now that the weather is nice. Your post just brought back another awesome ice cream memory. Have a great weekend!

jeez, singleton, you can write. the ending was great.

now. i've been thinking. the environment you and skinny describe is very unlike mine. and yet it seems we would/could be effortlessly chatting away over the beer that i don't drink in seconds.

is synchronicity at work? (can't tell you why i'm writing these words..) i get a kick out the the blogs in general but every once in a while i'm wishing for a cup of collective coffee..

:)

I've never had the pleasure of waiting for the ice cream truck :(

I have been there.
A sea of Harleys.
Revving their engines at sunrise. Not yet having been to sleep.
Beckoning to the brown van, "...come here girls!!! We've got the CSNY playing over here!"
Stumbling out of said van, maybe, I think, 6 hours later. Big smiles. Lots of new friends.
Life is good.

And now I am married and all of that is a distant memoire.

Singleton,
I tagged you, see my last post. I don't usually do these, I don't like them, but as you will see this worked as a catalyst for my expression this time.
No pressure, if you want, participate, if not, I love you.

Orhan....Then you'll just have to pretend! :)

Blue....A distant memory, but a gift....How awesome is that we can gift wrap our past, tote it from house to house, life to life, and every now and then, untie the ribbons and peek into a smile again! Memories, we gotta always, always make 'em....

Angela Marie....Girl, I live in a dream! If it weren't for those, life would be in black and white way too often!

Rachelle....You tagged me a long time ago, girl, the moment we crossed worlds! I'm sending you prayers of peace today, and love...

Dang your post remind me of places and people everytime I read them. There's a Harley Davidson plant outside of KC and I dig going to a bar that someone has put out there next to it. It has a floor that slants and wood exposed walls. Best bar in town. You can order a shot of Jack and a side of van ice cream!

Enemy of the Republic said...

Shit, sponger, next time I go to KC, take me to that bar!

yup singleton, i can toast. i ask for cranberry juice and soda water with a twist of lime in a wine glass, please. then i enjoy the feel of the stemware, appreciate the (usually) good folks around me and count my blessings. or then again, sometimes i just take a swig and superficially enjoy myself...

ps i look forward to hearing about chance.
